What is Reiki?
Reiki is a spiritual energy healing practice with Japanese origins. This technique is typically used for stress reduction and relaxation but can also promote an environment for healing in the body.
The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words, Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy”. So Reiki is actually “spiritually guided life force energy”.
It is performed by the practitioner placing hands on or above the body and giving focus to each of the energy centers (chakras) of the body to bring energetic balance and harmony within the system as a whole.
How does a session work?
Sessions run approximately 45 minutes. The client will lie in a comfortable position with eyes closed while the practitioner guides hands on areas of the body (or above the body if the client prefers not to be touched) using specific Reiki hand placements. Doing so balances the energy centers of the body and the client may feeling tingling, warming or pulsing sensations during the session. This is all completely normal.
